Jhumka 5:process

 The first attempt did not work out for setting at there was not enough metal space, the design needed some ovals to be removed to get more spacing.(As said from a professional setter)Hence I had to go back to the drawing board to make adjustments to the design as well as more metal thickness for the stones to set better.

These were just a trial of how to lay out the stones on the design as to whether to only have a centre stones or more stones to add more attraction to the piece. It was advised to have negative spaces to allow the whiteness of the plate to give off a nice effect to the design.

I placed an order for my stones from Touchstones on 06/10/2023 and received them on 11/10/2023. I finally received my stones from Touchstones and began placing the stones to check and ensure that they had the right colors and measurements.

Annealed and filed 

To create the silver metal's white effect, I simply applied heat to the metal, a process known as annealing.This time, I first pierced the circles on the border of the design and then punched holes to achieve a more accurately centered circle.

Paper removed, filed to neaten fine details 

As you can see, one of the challenges I faced after removing the paper was that certain edges were pierced too close to the drilled holes. Therefore, it was necessary to fix them.

Fixing process 

I then attempted to solder silver balls to the edges, which I would later file to match the shape. However, further work was still needed as two edges required fixing, since they were filed too much.

Jhumka 4: Stones selection

I've started the process of determining the required stone sizes and the exact names of the stones I need when placing an order from Touch Stones. This is what the process looked like when I was working with a variety of stone sizes and colors:

The Amethyst is the center stone (4.5mm), and there are white cubic stones for the circles (smaller circle - 1mm, bigger circle - 2mm), as well as oval garnet and sapphire cubic stones with dimensions of 5x3

Hindi soapie: Bhagyalakshmi

While watching my favorite Hindi soap opera, I noticed the ring that the actress was wearing. It could serve as a reference for what I'm working on, particularly the design of the ring's border, which features stones set to create a pearl effect. This aligns nicely with my design concept.

Attempt 1 

This process allows me to experiment with various colors to visualize how the design would look with added color. I've tried working with red cubic zirconia stones for the oval and the second layer of circles. As for the purple aspect, I'm still deciding on which stone to use. I noticed that Touchstones offers amethyst, violet, and lavender stones in different shades to choose from.

I tried viewing the designs differently with the use of greens and blues for the one design and for the other, I just added the purple for the center.

This was just a trial run of what the pieces would look like when placed on pink tissue paper, inside an Indian-styled bowl made of woven basket material, covered with a red cloth with golden dots. A woven scarf surrounds the bowl, serving as the background layout for the design as a whole, featuring golden and red colours with peacock feather designs.

This process was combining the two elements together to form the pendant.

I had then decided to add more elements to the design to avoid a lot of metal being visible to the design.

There was a huge improvement with my piercing skills once I had invested in using an optivisor to work with the finer detail design elements.
