Mangalsutra |
The mangalsutra is a significant symbol for a married Hindu bride, made of black and gold beads believed to ward off negativity. Worn during the wedding, it represents a lasting commitment, and "mangal" means auspicious while "sutra" means thread. Traditionally, it's not removed during the husband's lifetime; breaking it is seen as bad luck. Usually worn daily, some modernized couples choose just the sindoor or red dot to show they're married, applied after the mangalsutra during the wedding. (AIA)
